The Youth Center in Los Alamitos moved another step closer to building its new permanent home thanks to a donation from the Rossmoor Woman’s Club.
The woman’s club recently made a $1,000 donation toward the center’s efforts to build a permanent facility in the city. The center intends to raise $250,000 to build a new permanent home along Los Alamitos Boulevard.
The Youth Center is currently housed at the Los Alamitos Community center and adjacent to Oak Middle School. Its 50-year lease for free use of the building and gym expires next year. [The center received guaranteed use of the gym and facility because it sold its previous location on Katella and proceeds were used to help construct the school Gym in a joint effort with the City of Los Alamitos, the school district, and Rossmoor [thru the Count if Orange. The Youth Center hopes to build a state-of-the-art permanent home on a site it recently purchased on Los Alamitos Boulevard. The non-profit provides after-school and summer programs for children, leadership training for teens, and music education for elementary schools in the Los Alamitos Unified School District. It served more than 3,000 clients last year. The woman’s club, which will celebrate its 65th anniversary next year, is a social and philanthropic organization serving the greater Los Alamitos/Seal Beach and Long Beach areas.
